Liturgy, Reflection & Benediction 2024.08.11

Liturgy

Jesus, friend,
we walk through the doors today
heavy with the tolls of the week—
its entropies and ecstasies,
its griefs and mercies.
Jesus, friend,
come sit with us today.

Some days, we confess,
we are overwhelmed by the choices,
the chaos that we sweep into our dustpans
no sooner emptied than back on the floor.
On days like those, our hearts break softly
for a friend to walk with us.
Jesus, friend,
come sit with us today.

When we wake to a new morning,
the Sun a thick brine pouring through the window
we remember your warmth, your air.
We do not face the daily tumult alone.
Jesus, friend,
come walk with us today.
This we pray in the name
of the God who restores,
friend Jesus who joins in,
and the Holy Ghost, the work we do.
Amen

Scripture

We invite you to hear from the book of Ephesians 4:25, 29

25 So then, putting away falsehood, let each of you speak the truth with
your neighbor, for we are members of one another.
29 Let no evil talk come out of your mouths but only what is good for
building up, as there is need, so that your words may give grace to those
who hear.

The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God!
The grass withers and the flower fades,
but the Word of the Lord endures forever. Amen.

What stops me from engaging the practice of discernment?

What stops me from speaking the truth?

How can I lean into community as I practice discernment?

Benediction

Vox family, as you leave today,
may you go in peace,
walking without fear,
for God will go will you
each hour of every day.
May you go in faith,
participants in the holy mystery,
for God’s guidance is gentle
and his ways a path of life.
And may you go in love,
knowing you are beloved,
beheld by Mother God
and cared for always by her.
We go now, in the name
of Mother God,
brother Jesus,
and Holy Spirit,
our peace, our faith and our love.
Amen
