Liturgy Reflection & Benediction 08.28.2016

Liturgy

God in heaven, thank you
for this day you’ve made.
Thank you for reminders
that you are present.

Open our eyes to the beauty
you’ve created all around us,
that we may see how close it is.

Open our hearts to treasure
the good things you give us,
and to seek those above all else.

We begin our worship today
in the name of the Father,
of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit,
Amen.

Community Confession

God, you created us with the capacity to
decide right from wrong, and commanded
us to trust you. But how often do we take
and eat that beautifully ripe piece of fruit?
Forgive us when we seek our
own desires and not yours.

Jesus, you taught us what it means
to sacrifice. To know what is better
for the other, and also the self.
Forgive us when we choose
ourselves and sacrifice the other.

Holy Spirit, you breathe reminders that we are loved,
And yet we still try to make ourselves love-able.
Forgive us when we put on the false self,
trying to make ourselves worthy of love.

We pray in the name
of the Father,
the Son,
and the Holy Spirit,
Amen.

Sermon and Reflection

Sermon Podcast 8.28.16 – Wisdom: Who We Are

Does who you are inform what you do or vice versa?
Why do you value what you value?

Benediction

God, in his infinite wisdom, created you.
He knew what he was doing.
He made you, because he loves you.

Build this image of yourself in your mind:
you are truly loved by God.

Go out of this place today with that image.
Carry it in your mind and look at it often.
Let the Spirit of God fill you with peace
that you are enough, and let this knowledge
be the starting point for all that you do.

We pray in the name
of the Father,
of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit,
Amen.

Go in peace and live the church.
See you throughout the week.
