What if we were caught doing something good? Well this month is the perfect time to give it a try in the form of cracking open a delightful book and saturating your brain with some deliciously educational fare. So tonight when the mood is right, dim the lights and sashay your way over to the couch. With a heartfelt book in one hand and a glass of wine in the other, get ready for an enchanted evening where your imagination hops over into the driving seat and takes you for the ride of your life. And if your reading material of choice is by Judith Mcnaught or Nicholas Sparks, don’t forget the kleenex, because you know it’s gonna be a tear jerker. Happy Get Caught Reading Month, friends.
[Dunking Party ’10]
This Sunday, May 16th, Vox will be having a baptism celebration at Fiesta Gardens to commemorate the decisions of several people in our community who will be publicly declaring their decision to follow Jesus Christ. In addition to having the baptism, we plan on having a community picnic chock full of food and games. And for those who don’t bring their own eats, our friends at Old School BBQ will be bringing their food truck and serving up some delicious eats. So please bring a blanket, a lunch, or cash and join us for a beautiful afternoon celebrating Jesus, and the decisions of our friends who will be getting baptized. (In case of rain, the baptism will take place at Space12.)

[Familia(r)]
The Fireseed/297 Eastside Collective is an artful, intentional living community in East Austin. “Familia(r)” will showcase individual members’ works, interactive live performances, and collaborations with neighbors, students, and friends. Utilizing multiple forms of media, the artists will transform Space12 into an experiential narrative that will serve up snapshots of their exile from individualism and consumerist relationships. [Skillshare Austin]
Skillshare Austin is one of the big highlight events Space12 hosts annually. It’s a 2-day event (6/5-6/6) that features free hands-on workshops on urban homesteading, transportation, arts and media, fun and games, parenting and childcare, horizontal organizing, cooking, health and self care and more! They are currently looking for a few more workshops. We would like our Vox community to attend and participate in this event. If you have a skill you like to share and teach, please contact Sam or sign up via the Skillshare website ASAP.
[We Are Juneteenth: Arts & Retail Bazaar]
On June 19th from 10am-5pm, Space 12 will be hosting We Are Juneteenth, an art and retail bazaar. We are currently looking for artisans who are interested in being a vendor for our next craft bazaar. It will coincide with Austin’s Juneteenth celebration which is one of the most important event here in East Austin. [Sunday Liturgy]

Spring Neighborhoods is in full swing, friends!! We would love to invite everyone to plug into a neighborhood this year and live the church with those around you. Our neighborhoods will be organized by geography, so whatever part of town you live, we have a group for you!! Check out the map to see when and where each neighborhood group meets.

[Lost and Found]
No, we’re not referring to the band whose song ‘Lions’ features the slinky as a percussion instrument. We’re referring to the bin of unclaimed goodies and homeless artifacts located next to the water cooler by the bar at Space12. If you think you may have left something at Space12, chances are it’s been put into the lost and found bin. At the end of each month, we plan on donating the contents of the lost and found bin, so please check to make sure you haven’t misplaced anything you don’t mind passing along to those who can use it.

[Reading Recommendations]
Recently, we finished our conversation through Paul’s letter to the Romans and discussed Paul’s reference to the Roman community as, “complete in knowledge and competent to instruct one another” (15:14). The word ‘complete‘ was often used in the ancient world as a sailing term, whenever the wind would fill (complete) the sail and propel the boat towards the open seas. In the same way, our hope is to become a community where our knowledge propels us to where God is moving in the world. As a tool to help us move in this direction, we compiled a list of suggested readings which can be found here.

You might be wondering what this acronym stands for. Well, allow me to spill the beans!! WYOMP stands for ‘Wash Your Own Mugs, Please ‘. One of the new perks of having our liturgy at Space12 is the plethora of mugs and drinking utensils at our disposal. Unfortunately, when the liturgy is over and the snacks are all consumed, the once clean cups are left dirty and all alone in the sink. If you could, after you have finished enjoying the delightful snacks and beverages, please lend a hand with washing the mugs and drinkware. That would be greatly appreciated.
