What is it about our culture that really enjoys paradoxical oxymorons? If you don’t know what I’m talking about, just watch Linda Richman on her show ‘Coffee Talk’ and you’ll see what I mean. During this National Hamburger Month, doesn’t it seem ironic to be celebrating something that has such an incapacitating identity crisis that it can do nothing but lie and sleep between two slices of bread? Sure, it tastes delicious and gives great satisfaction and fulfillment once ingested and digested, but c’mon now, is it really socially and morally beneficial to be highlighting a piece of meat that lives its life by sitting on a throne of lies? I think not. And while we’re on the subject, don’t think we don’t see you over there, you filthy Chickpea! You’re neither a chick nor a pea, but just because you’ve stepped into a deep fryer and changed your name to Falafel, don’t think for one second that we are unable to see past your crispy exterior. Watch out, because you’re next on our paradoxical oxymoron hitless.

Much of what we do at Vox is inspired by the world leader known as P-Diddy, so it’s no surprise we jacked his slogan as well. Although presidential candidates won’t be on our ballot, it’s time to let your voices be heard. This Sunday, we will be having our ECC affirmation vote where you, the men and women of Vox Veniae, get to say ‘YAY’, ‘NAY’ or ‘FTW’ to whether or not we as a community move forward in becoming part of the ECC denomination. Not going to be at Liturgy this Sunday? Never fear!! We will have Absentee ballots available if you are unable to attend this weekend’s festivities. [Skillshare Austin]
Skillshare Austin is one of the big highlight events Space12 hosts annually. It’s a 2-day event (6/5-6/6) that features free hands-on workshops on urban homesteading, transportation, arts and media, fun and games, parenting and childcare, horizontal organizing, cooking, health and self care and more! They are currently looking for a few more workshops. We would like our Vox community to attend and participate in this event. If you have a skill you like to share and teach, please contact Sam or sign up via the Skillshare website ASAP.

[Sunday Liturgy]

Spring Neighborhoods is in full swing, friends!! We would love to invite everyone to plug into a neighborhood this year and live the church with those around you. Our neighborhoods will be organized by geography, so whatever part of town you live, we have a group for you!! Check out the map to see when and where each neighborhood group meets.

[Lost and Found]
No, we’re not referring to the band whose song ‘Lions’ features the slinky as a percussion instrument. We’re referring to the bin of unclaimed goodies and homeless artifacts located next to the water cooler by the bar at Space12. If you think you may have left something at Space12, chances are it’s been put into the lost and found bin. At the end of each month, we plan on donating the contents of the lost and found bin, so please check to make sure you haven’t misplaced anything you don’t mind passing along to those who can use it.

Have you always wanted to get more involved with Vox but haven’t known how? Do you have a passion or vision for something that Vox isn’t currently involved in? If you answered YES to either of these questions, then this is for you!! We would love to help you get more involved with what’s happening in the Vox community, as well as come along side your passion and vision to help it leave the dream realm and give it life. [Reading Recommendations]
Recently, we finished our conversation through Paul’s letter to the Romans and discussed Paul’s reference to the Roman community as, “complete in knowledge and competent to instruct one another” (15:14). The word ‘complete‘ was often used in the ancient world as a sailing term, whenever the wind would fill (complete) the sail and propel the boat towards the open seas. In the same way, our hope is to become a community where our knowledge propels us to where God is moving in the world. As a tool to help us move in this direction, we compiled a list of suggested readings which can be found here.

You might be wondering what this acronym stands for. Well, allow me to spill the beans!! WYOMP stands for ‘Wash Your Own Mugs, Please ‘. One of the new perks of having our liturgy at Space12 is the plethora of mugs and drinking utensils at our disposal. Unfortunately, when the liturgy is over and the snacks are all consumed, the once clean cups are left dirty and all alone in the sink. If you could, after you have finished enjoying the delightful snacks and beverages, please lend a hand with washing the mugs and drinkware. That would be greatly appreciated.
