Liturgy

Hosanna, Lord, thank you for keeping the promise of peace
Lord, as wars rage, we remember you came to Earth as a newborn babe
We remember that we laid palms at your feet, shouting your holy name
But today, we take pause and also rememberโ€”that we rebuked you
Remind us that Peter was confident he would never deny you
So to, we approach these days with a finality
We deny that you are the keeper of peace
We forget that your lips speak goodness and miracles

Help us to remember that we are no different than Rome
Jehovah, Shalomโ€”yours is an ancient peace
In the name of a Divine Creator that never goes back on their word
A Spirit of fire, that causes the discord of many tongues to speak
one voice
And a Christ of infinite power, that visited us as a baby,
Amen

Scripture

We invite you to hear from the book of Isaiah 55:6-9
6 Seek the Lord while the Lord may be found; call upon the Lord while the
Lord is near; 7 let the wicked forsake their way and the unrighteous their
thoughts; let them return to the Lord, that the Lord may have mercy on
them, and to our God, for God will abundantly pardon.
8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways,
says the Lord. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my
ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God!
The grass withers and the flower fades,
but the Word of the Lord endures forever. Amen.

Podcast: Sacred Witness

  • Where do you notice scapegoating inside us and between us today?
  • Who is โ€œan opponentโ€ you might wish to get to know better as a person?
  • How are you becoming a source of โ€œunexpected kindnessโ€ toward someone?

Benediction

Lord, we are anxious, but you go before us
And we will not be afraid
For it is written in the Old Testament that God revealed themselves
through Israel
You are a God that heals and transcends nation states
You entered the world as a child
And it is those who become like children that enter the Kingdom of
Heaven
Jehovah, Shalom
Help us to lay down our weapons
Of guns, and arrows
Our weapons of lashing words and unyielding judgment
We lay down our tools that signal our humanness
And we lay them down at your feet
In the name of a God of surrender
A spirit of Shalom
And a Christ of unwavering promise,
who never goes back on their word
Amen
