In Matthew 23, Jesus uses the metaphor of God being like a mother hen. While a mother hen has many fine attributes, protection and staying live are not at the top of her list. Many of us would prefer God being like a mamma bear or at the least an Asian Tiger mom. Instead of promising power and protection, God promises presence and affection.
